Despite their misdeeds, the sovereignty of God is ultimately accomplished, as evidenced by the passing down of the patriarchal blessing to Jacob through deceit. Isaac's blessing carries prophetic significance and is a sort of inheritance that is separate from the birthright, and Esau's decision to sell his birthright for a bowl of soup is used as an example of making short-sighted and unwise decisions.
