Beginnings of the Reformation, Martin Luther

Gregg describes the political and social climate of Europe during Luther's time, where feudal lords controlled the land and the papacy ruled over an illiterate continent. Luther's study of the Bible led him to challenge the Catholic Church's teachings on indulgences, which ultimately led to his excommunication. Despite this, Luther continued to teach and his influence remained strong, leading to changes in church practices and a rise in congregational singing.
