Despite the miracles performed by the prophet Elisha, the people of Israel did not adhere to his teachings. The story also features a confrontation between Amaziah and Jehoash, in which Jehoash rightly rebukes Amaziah for challenging him, comparing Amaziah to a thistle trying to boss around a cedar tree.
